Condition Based Maintenance · On Site

Find the root cause before the breakdown.

CBM Consultants carries out on-site condition based maintenance surveys on rotating plant and electrical infrastructure — so you can plan the repair at a time that suits production, instead of reacting to a failure.

Why condition based maintenance

Reactive maintenance is the most expensive kind.

Reliability and efficiency of plant and equipment is paramount — and today's maintenance teams face skills shortages alongside rising pressure to keep production running.

Condition based maintenance moves you from reactive breakdown repairs to predictive maintenance. Regular CBM surveys give you the insight to predict and address potential failures before they happen, improving response times and cutting both production and maintenance costs.

As well as preventing downtime and equipment damage, CBM eliminates premature component replacement — you replace parts because the data says so, not because a schedule does.

What CBM saves you

  • Reduced production downtime
  • Lower repair and spares costs
  • Less abnormal labour cost — overtime and contractors
  • Improved quality control and safety
  • Condition trends recorded over time
  • Advance warning of equipment defects
  • Root cause failure analysis
4 in one — on site

One site visit. Four CBM activities.

Rather than scheduling four separate contractors, a single CBM Consultants site visit can cover all four disciplines across your plant — each survey carried out to ISO standards, with certified reports on every fault found.

1

Vibration diagnostics

Absolute and relative vibration, compared with baseline data.

2

IR thermography

Thermal survey of electrical and mechanical assets.

3

Oil sampling

Free flow samples drawn and sent for certified laboratory analysis.

4

Ultrasound

Leak detection, partial discharge and bearing condition checks.

The P–F interval

CBM buys you planning time

The internationally recognised P–F curve shows why early detection matters. P is the point at which a potential failure first becomes detectable; F is the functional failure — the breakdown. The earlier the root cause is detected, the more time you have to act.

The P–F curve Equipment condition declines over time. A potential failure becomes detectable at point P. The interval between P and the functional failure at point F is the planning time available for corrective action. CBM surveys aim to detect the fault as early as possible in that interval. By detecting the root cause of a component failure as early as possible, the time available for corrective action is increased — avoiding a reactive failure.

Wireless vibration monitoring

When the data point is out of reach

Safety lock-outs, noise enclosures, height restrictions, moving cranage and restricted security areas all make manual vibration readings difficult or impossible while plant is in production.

Permanently mounted wireless sensors solve it. Readings are collected through a long-range gateway and viewed on a phone or desktop — daily if you want — showing the actual condition of your more critical equipment, including internal components such as bearings.
